Roof & Gutter Inspection in SE19 – Moss Build-Up & Early Ponding Identified
At TopDrone UK, we recently carried out a drone roof and gutter inspection for a homeowner in SE19 (Crystal Palace area).
As part of our local community initiative, we’re helping SE19 residents detect early roofing and drainage issues before they become costly repairs.
Inspection Findings
Using high-resolution drone imagery and short aerial video footage, we identified:
Noticeable moss build-up in the front gutter
Early signs of water ponding at the entrance roof top
Rear guttering clear and functioning correctly
No visible structural damage at this stage
The moss accumulation was clearly obstructing water flow along the front elevation. Additionally, slight ponding near the entrance roof area indicates restricted drainage — something that can worsen during heavy rainfall.
What Is Ponding — And Why It Matters
Ponding occurs when water collects and remains on a surface instead of draining away properly.
Over time, ponding can:
Add excessive weight to guttering and roof edges
Cause leaks around joints and seals
Increase risk of damp penetration
Accelerate material deterioration
The Outcome
This was a preventative inspection.
The homeowner now has:
Clear photographic evidence of front gutter moss build-up
Early identification of minor ponding at the entrance roof tip
Confirmation that the rear guttering remains in good condition
Addressing the moss build-up promptly will restore proper water flow and prevent long-term damage.
